State and Local Gross Receipts-Based Taxes and/or Sales Tax Updates
A gross receipts tax is similar to a sales tax, but it is levied on the seller of goods or consumer services.
Currently, 12 states require us to collect these taxes on our payroll handling fees.
We collect all required gross revenue-based state and local taxes directly from our clients,
based on the following state requirements.
- Connecticut Sales Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 6.35% Sales Tax.
- Georgia - Atlanta Occupational Tax - Payroll handling fees for all payroll processed in Georgia are subject to a 1.4% Gross Receipts Tax.
- Hawaii Excise Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 4.5% Gross Excise Tax.
- Kansas Sales Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 6.5% Sales Tax.
- Minnesota Sales Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 6.875% Sales Tax.
- New Mexico GRT - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 7.875% Gross Receipts Tax.
- New Mexico Super Loan-Out GRT - Total Gross Billings are subject to a 5.125% Gross Receipts Tax.
- Ohio Commercial Activity Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a .26% Gross Receipts Tax.
- Ohio Sales Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 5.75% Sales Tax.
- South Dakota Sales Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 6% Sales Tax.
- Virgin Islands Gross Receipts Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 4% Gross Receipts Tax.
- Washington D.C. Sales Tax - Payroll handling fees are subject to a 6% Sales Tax.
