2026 New York Film Festival: Essential Films

    Updated October 12, 2026.

The short version: The 64th New York Film Festival (NYFF) runs September 25-October 12, 2026, at Lincoln Center and venues across all five boroughs. Six GreenSlate client projects are premiering, including Opening Night selection Paper Tiger, plus Clarissa, Misty Green, The Man I Love, Club Kid, and Fjord.

The New York Film Festival, presented by Film at Lincoln Center, has been bringing the best of world cinema to audiences since 1963. This year's Main Slate features 32 films from 31 countries, including new work from big names in filmmaking and several Cannes favorites. James Gray's Paper Tiger opened the festival, Tony Gilroy's Behemoth! is the Centerpiece, and Ava DuVernay's 14th closes it out.

We're proud to see six of our clients on this year's slate. Here's what to look for before the festival wraps on October 12.

Which GreenSlate Client Projects Are at NYFF 2026?

    Opening Night

    Paper Tiger

James Gray kicked off the festival with this New York thriller set in 1986 Queens and Brooklyn. Miles Teller plays Irwin, a family man and engineer who gets pulled into a risky scheme with Russian criminals by his brother Gary (Adam Driver), a former NYPD cop. As the stakes rise, Irwin finds himself torn between loyalty to his brother and the family he's trying to protect, including his wife Hester (Scarlett Johansson). Paper Tiger screened at NYFF as a North American premiere.

    Main Slate

    Clarissa

Twin filmmakers Arie and Chuko Esiri bring Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway to contemporary Nigeria in this quietly beautiful adaptation. Oscar nominee Sophie Okonedo stars as Clarissa, who spends a day preparing for a lavish party while memories of her past and old loves drift back to her. The cast also includes David Oyelowo, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Ayo Edebiri. Clarissa premiered at Cannes Directors' Fortnight and screens at NYFF as a U.S. premiere.

    Misty Green

Chris Rock writes, directs, and stars in this A24 drama about Misty Green (Rosalind Eleazar), an Emmy-winning actress whose career has stalled years after her big Hollywood break. Now she's fighting for a second act. The ensemble cast includes Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, and Topher Grace. The film arrives at NYFF as a U.S. premiere after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival.

    The Man I Love

Ira Sachs directs Rami Malek in this musical drama set in late-1980s New York. Malek plays Jimmy George, a downtown performance artist living in the space between illness and mortality, where beauty and love are still within reach. The film makes its New York premiere at NYFF following its Cannes debut.

    Spotlight

    Club Kid

Jordan Firstman writes, directs, and stars in his first feature as Peter, a hard-partying New York City club promoter whose life is turned upside down when the ten-year-old son he never knew he had shows up. Funny and heartfelt, the A24 film is a New York premiere at NYFF, with its final festival screening on October 12.

    Fjord

Cristian Mungiu won his second Palme d'Or at Cannes for this drama starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve. They play a married couple who have moved from Romania to a small seaside town in Norway with their five children. Welcomed at first, the family soon finds itself under suspicion after an allegation of abuse, and the film leaves viewers with questions that don't have easy answers. Fjord is Romania's submission for Best International Feature at the 2027 Academy Awards and screens at NYFF as a New York premiere.

The Road to NYFF 2026: Celebrating Our Client Legacy

It's been an honor to work alongside so many talented filmmakers and storytellers, and this year's lineup continues that tradition.

NYFF is a good moment to look back. Our clients have been part of the festival for years, from Chloé Zhao's Nomadland, which was the Centerpiece in 2020 before winning the Oscar for Best Picture, to last year's If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, Late Fame, and Mr. Scorsese. This year, with six projects including the Opening Night film, the story keeps growing, and we can't wait to see what comes next.

Also see our client projects at TIFF 2026 and Sundance 2026.
