“Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” Premieres at Telluride Film Festival
“Marcel the Shell With Shoes On,” the feature-length adaptation of Dean Fleischer-Camp and Jenny Slate's series of popular short films and New York Times-bestselling books, premiered September 3rd at the Telluride Film Festival. This release marks Marcel’s return after six years, as well as his first time on the big screen.
Who is Marcel? According to the film’s Telluride description: “He’s a tiny, chatty, one-eyed young seashell who can walk and talk and opine about the marvelous world around him. He lives with his Lesley Stahl-loving grandmother (also a seashell, and voiced by Isabella Rossellini) in an Airbnb when the home’s latest guest, a filmmaker named Dean, decides to make a short documentary about him and post it online. How will Marcel respond to his newfound internet celebrity? And how will it change his life? What starts off as a good natured, offbeat slice-of-life turns into a deeply moving meditation on kindness, curiosity, community, and learning to accept change and move on.”
Since its premiere, “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” has garnered a lot of praise.
“By the film's end, it feels like the cinematic equivalent of a hug.” - Monica Castillo, TheWrap
“Marcel The Shell With Shoes On manages to harness enough of what initially made this diminutive protagonist such an unexpected treat; in particular, Slate's endearing vocal performance.” - Tim Grierson, Screen International
“Pack a hankie. But don't miss this strange, special little film.” - Peter Debruge, Variety

“If you're not using GreenSlate for processing production payroll, then you're not thinking clearly. We run about 10–12 productions a year and have used several of their competitors. I've put off sharing this as I've truly felt they've been a competitive advantage.”
