Sundance Favorite 'Brittany Runs a Marathon' Opens in Theaters in August
Paul Downs Colaizzo makes his first feature film directorial debut with the entertaining and inspirational Sundance Film Festival audience award winner “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” a story loosely based on the real-life experiences of Colaizzo’s best friend Brittany.
When her party-girl lifestyle catches up with her, Brittany, a likeable and funny 27-year-old hot mess of a New Yorker played by Jillian Bell, must suddenly come to terms with the reality of how she’s been living. To improve her health, she laces up her Converse sneakers to run around New York City, taking control of her life one city block at a time.
Variety’s Dennis Harvey says “this fact-based comedy is one potentially formulaic underdog-triumphs crowdpleaser that knocks it out of the park,” while Time Out’s Tomris Laffly calls the film an “endearing and earnest comedy about self-acceptance and body positivity that sidesteps cheesy pitfalls… Colaizzo successfully walks a fine line between inspiration and caution, never presenting Brittany as a patronizing role model for weight loss, nor a clichéd case of inner beauty.”
The film was produced by Matthew Plouffe and Tobey Maguire of Material Pictures and Margot Hand of Picture Films, and executive produced by Jillian Bell, Richard Weinberg, and Paul Downs Colaizzo.

“If you're not using GreenSlate for processing production payroll, then you're not thinking clearly. We run about 10–12 productions a year and have used several of their competitors. I've put off sharing this as I've truly felt they've been a competitive advantage.”
