New Writers Guild of America MOA Changes Now in Effect

Every three years, the WGA ratifies the Minimum Basic Agreement, known as the Memorandum of Agreement. The agreement becomes effective retroactive to May 1, 2020 and expires May 1, 2023. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) wages will increase 7.5% by 2023. Other key changes are outlined in this blog.

Wage Increases

  • 1.5% effective May 2, 2020
  • 3% effective May 2, 2021
  • 3% effective May 2, 2022 

Threshold Changes HBSVOD

  • 20-35 minutes: changed from $1,300,000 and above to $1,000,000 and above and increases May 2, 2022 to $1,030,000 and above
  • 30-65 minutes: changed from $2,500,000 and above to $1,700,000 and above and increases May 2, 2022 to $1,750,00 and above
  • 66+ minutes: stayed the same at $3,000,000 and above

Pension Increases

  • 1.5% (from 8.5% to 10%) effective May 2, 2020
  • 1.5% (from 7% to 8.5%) for pilot and new one-hour series effective May 2, 2020 
  • 1.5% (from 7% to 8.5%) for purchase of literary material for pilot or first season of one-hour series, and is employed for one re-write or polish effective May 2, 2020
